We’re seeing a nice bounce back after a very crummy week last week. As I’m typing this, the major indices stand to gain a couple percent back this week, but will it last? We’ve seen bounces like this before, only to find another leg down. However, stocks will have to bottom eventually. Could this be it?
Here’s what I’ve been reading this morning:
‘The Case For Owning Bonds’ – Ben Carlson – A Wealth of Common Sense
- While 2022 hasn’t been a good year for stocks, it hasn’t been a good year for bonds either. The logical line of thinking with diversification suggests bonds should hold up when stocks falls, but they haven’t. If that’s the case, why own bonds at all? Well, Ben is here to make the case.
- Similar to Ben’s post above, the case for sticking with bonds in portfolio is similar to sticking with your 60/40 portfolio. The strategy is NOT dead! This article discusses why the popular 60/40 portfolio is still relevant today.
‘A Dirty Business’ – Jonathan Clements – Humble Dollar
- In today’s society, entering personal information on the internet is common place even though we know the risk of potential stolen identities. But what about through physical mail? Jonathan outlines a scam called “check washing”, how it impacted him, and how it’s shaken his confidence in the postal service.
‘It’s All Gone’ – Michael Batnick – The Irrelevant Investor
- Over the last handful of years, we’ve seen more and more dollars flowing into broad market index funds. Why? Picking stocks is HARD. Michael gives some evidence of that fact by using stocks like Facebook and Netflix as examples.
ENJOY!
